In 2004, we made history.
Best Drum Major Award 2004 for the very first time...

In 2006, we made history too.
Best Drum Major Award 2006 plus the first batch to achieve the Gold With Honors Award.

Just 2 days ago, in the very same stadium, Deyi marked our place, making us the best in history ever.
Gold With Honors.
Best Drum Major Award 2008
Best Display Band of the year 2008.

Yes, it still hasn't sunk in to me that Deyi has created legend only TK has created before in 2002, winning both best band and best drum awards. Seriously, when TK marched down national stadium, i thought for sure that we were definite goners. Precision, music and marching were all so perfect just like the past few years. Everything was done in a very authentic TK manner.

Then, there was Deyi Military Band. I now dub it the Oh-all-the-sex-and-hotness-band. Nothing more to be said. One word: Impressive. Another word: Impeccable. Last word: Exquisite. Three minutes into the show, i knew Deyi has given TK a good run for the money. Everything just seemed to be so perfect. Fate of Deyi for being the best band was considered (by me) to be sealed as soon as the baton twirlers finished their routine.

Anyhow, updates on some surprising results:
TANJONG KATONG BAND , widely known as TK Band, got G.W.Hs too. After the 5 years winning streak, i guess that it's time for you guys to pass the title on. But for one thing i can rely my life on: TK will fight back with vengeance in 2010 for the title again. You are basically the only competitors Deyi will be looking out for.

BOWEN BAND received GOLD this year. After watching them, i (and most other people) believe that the traditional top three bands have been cut down to only two, namely TK and Deyi. Totally out of the top three league this year, it's hard to imagine how good they were in 2002 as compared to now. Please stage a comeback in 2010. We would love to see a once-darkhorse-and-now-underdogs do well.

PING YI, surprisingly, obtained SILVER. *GASPS SO LOUD THAT IT FEELS LIKE HEAVY BREATHING* I'm surprised not because they did badly. I'm surprised because they did superb and only received a silver medal. When they performed, the Deyi Alumni all considered them to be a G.W.Hs medalist, booting Bowen out of the top 3 schools. However, there are too many tatics from DCI, Cavaliers and other performing bands going on. Very "not original" in fact.

BP BAND was expected to clinch a GOLD, given their performance this year. Shockingly, they too got silver. Being fourth place in the year 2002, following closely behind TK, Bowen and Deyi in the Grand Finals, i think it's hard for them to receive a silver medal too, considering that they were once a gold band.

NOSTALGIA. Here's the placing i give the bands since 2002.

SYF 2002:
1. TK
2. Bowen
3. Deyi
4. BP

SYF 2004:
1. TK
2. Deyi
3. Bowen

SYF 2006:
1. TK
2. Deyi
3. Bowen

SYF 2008:
1. Deyi
2. TK
3. Ping Yi

My prediction for 2010? Hard to tell now. But rest assure it's going to be all about TK and Deyi. (Though i would love to add Bowen into this) The first's a all-time favourite with a record of 5 Best Band titles while the latter's the new defending champion with an archive of 3 Best Drum Major Awards.
Then again, it's up to former powerhouse Bowen Band to mark their place once again like how they did in the early part of the century and take the field by storm.
(I somehow miss the times when there was so much feud going on between these three schools.)

Once again, congrats to Deyi Band for sweeping all 3 awards. I, as an ex-trumpeter from Deyi, salute you guys for doing so well.

May the best band win in 2008.
